Homework assumes a prominent role in the academic success of all students once they enter middle school. It is very important that students do their homework conscientiously. At the same, we believe it is also important to balance the demands of school with students’ lives outside of school.  All of the 6th grade classroom teachers at CFA have agreed to a new guiding principle for homework assignments: we will give your child only one homework assignment each night. The assignment will be meaningful practice and/or the application of a concept and will take no more than an hour to complete. These homework assignments will be graded. Students will be expected to turn in their homework the next day or receive a “0” for the assignment. Homework grades will count for 33% of a student’s grade for each marking period in each of the four core subjects, with class work, projects, and tests making up the rest.

Homework assignments will be made each day on the following schedule :
  • Monday—Humanities
  • Tuesday—Science
  • Wednesday—Language A
  • Thursday—Math
  • Weekend—No homework
We hope a clear, consistent schedule such as this will help both you and your child manage expectations for what it required.

It is our intention to provide a process for homework that will support your child’s academic success and provide the time for the important social and family interactions that a young adolescent needs. Please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher or the guidance office at 936-3788 if you have any questions about this or any other aspect of your child’s 6th grade experience.
