4th Grade Art
Welcome to 4th Grade Art!!!

This year, students will create projects that will explore CONTOUR LINE, SHAPE, FORM, COLOR, SILHOUETTE, VALUE, PORTRAITURE, FIGURE DRAWING, and TEXTURE. You child will also be introduced to how other subject areas connect with art, and prominent art, art styles, and artists from history. All projects will build on prior skills learned while allowing your child's imagination to soar!


 The following Common Core Learning Standards will be addressed through projects and learning in art:

- English Language Arts -
Reading an Informational Text: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10
Reading Foundational Skills: 3, 4
Writing: 1, 4, 11
Speaking and Listening: 1, 2, 3, 4

- Math -
Measurement and Data: 1
Geometry: 3


Unit 1: Portraiture
- Learning Goals -
  • Review their knowledge of line drawing.
  • To learn and practice contour line drawing by drawing a partner several times.
  • Be introduced to a variety of mediums - markers, watercolor paint, sharpie markers, and different techniques for watercolors.
  • Learn about portraiture and silhouette portraits as an art form.
  • Learn how to correctly draw facial features and their placement on the face. 
  • Analyze their art and the art of their peers for positive and improvement things.
  • To express themselves by creating a self-portrait.

Unit 2: Figure Drawing
- Learning Goals -

  • To learn about the proportions of the body.
  • To learn about the significance of El Dia de los Muertos and how it relates to our holidays.
  • To create a skeleton that is proportionate.
  • To use a variety of materials to dress your skeleton in a themed costume.
  • To learn about the artwork and influences of Alberto Giacometti.
  • To create at least 4 drawn figures that is in proportion.
  • Create 1 wire sculpture that shows a figure in motion, is free-standing, and is proportional.
  • Analyze their art and the art of their peers for positive and improvement things.

Unit 3: Art and Math
- Learning Goals -

  • To learn about the similarities between math and art.
  • To create different patterns by using different fractions on graph paper.
  • To use shapes to create symmetry.
  • To understand what a line of symmetry is and how it relates to art.
  • To create a stamp and then create a stamp print that has symmetry.
